The Madness Behind My Pursuit To Rid Toxic Junk From My Life

The madness behind my pursuit to rid toxic junk from my life and why you should join me. Read all about over at

I’m so excited to share with you my love affair with essential oils. I say affair because, let me tell you, these amazing oils are part of my everyday everything. No kidding!

My Oil Journey

May 2014. At first, I just went with the flow and used the oils primarily for diffusing so that my house would smell so refreshing and boy did it smell good. One weekend I had time to piddle around with the oils so I pull out some bowls and spoons rounded up a spray bottle, dug in the drawer for some roller bottles I previously bought for who knows what and got busy making a bug spray, a roll on for pains, and a roll on for cuts.

So now I’m armed and not so dangerous with my small teeny collection of oil remedies. The next weekend I packed up my new BF (my diffuser) and grabbed my oils and bikini and headed to the lake to meet up with my for reals BFF.

This IS What Happen When I Got To The Lake

I start unpacking my super cool oil collection and my BF is watching me with the ever so curious eyes as I fill the diffuser and start it up, unpack my bug spray, and lay out my oils. I proceed to start spraying everyone with my super cool and wonderful smelling bug spray and we head out to the deck. The entire time we are out there not one single bug came near us. How cool is that. And no chemicals…..even cooler.

My Love Affair With Oils Started And I'm Not One Bit Mad About It

I couldn’t wait to make other oil recipes. And that’s exactly what I did. I now make my own face wash, face serum, face lotion, body lotion, household cleaner, fabric softener, hand soap, bug spray, lotion for poison ivy, sleepy time lotion and many other remedies. My next recipes I made was a Sea Salt spray for my hair and sunscreen. This new way of living is pretty dang exciting. I now know every single ingredient in my stuff.....all of my stuff. Stuff that I'm applying to my skin, the largest cell surface on our body that absorbs all the things and sends it straight into our system.

Basically, since May 2014 I have not taken a single Ibuprofen or Advil, used OTC deodorant, toothpaste, face products, sunscreen, allergy meds, or household cleaning products. I am so happy that I have been able to reduce the amount of chemicals that I put in/on my body and in the air. How awesome is this. Naturally made by the earth and offers so much more to our beautiful lives than any bottle of pepto bismol will ever offer.

No More Candles In My House

Did I mention I no longer use candles or other types of smell goods for the house…..just my diffuser. I also have not called in to work sick like many of my co-workers. When I feel something going on (like I might be getting sick) I go to my oils and BAM they do their magic. Not even joking. I DO NOT have a primary care physician.

So where do I get my oils? Not at the grocery store. Not at the health food store. Nope. I get my Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils from Young Living. YL oils are pure no synthetic additives added. YL harvests all of their oils and they do this all over the world. Really a fascinating company.

How To Start Your Oil Journey

I started my oil journey out with a essential oil starter kit. The kit includes a diffuser (which I run every single day) and a variety of oils to begin with.

If you have any questions about oils feel free to contact me. I would love to help you get started on a healthier journey.

I could go on for hours if not days about these lovely little oils and all the people I have helped by introducing them to the oils but you probably want to get started on your own oil journey so that you can also share with your loved ones.

If you're ready to join me on the oil journey you can sign up here. I can walk you through sign up or we can meet up if you're in the Tulsa area. Let me know how I can help.

I almost forgot.....this bracelet is an essential oil diffuser bracelet. Add two drops of your favorite oil to palm of hands and roll bracelet in between your hands and now you have an oil diffuser to wear. How awesome is that.

Seriously though, these oils have changed my life in so many ways. I haven't felt healthier than I do right now. I love that I can simply refer to my essential oil guide book and learn ways to take care of ailments without resorting to using toxic drugs.

Hey babe you can click here to get started.

Celebrate Life - My Story

Fall has arrived and I can't be anymore excited than a pig rolling in mud assuming pigs really like doing that.

Fall......Oh How I Love You

With the arrival of Fall so many good things arrive with it. Things that warm my soul. Things that bring a slow grinto my face kinda like a cat that ate the canary grin, you know the one. Things that I wish would last forever.

The things I'm talking about are:

  • Cooler temps
  • Brisk air
  • Falling leaves blowing along the street
  • All the shades of oranges, yellows, purples that fill the gardens
  • The smell of pies baking
  • The smell of coffee brewing
  • Jeans, sweaters, and boots.....Holla!!!
  • Coffee/Wine drinking on the deck
  • Long walks
  • The excitement of the Holidays approaching

These things seem to ease anxiety, to bring people together (ya know football games and such), and to encourage giving.

Time To Give Back, To Make A Difference

This Fall with all the feels going on I want to make a difference. I want to encourage others to want to make a difference. I want to reach out to strangers and help. I want to help save lives. I want to give back to an organization (Planned Parenthood) that was there for me when I needed them the most. I put my thinking cap on and created a Celebrate Life campaign.

While everyday should be a celebration of life there are times when it's difficult to see what you should be celebrating. This can't be more true when it comes to being told you have Cancer. Head over to the blog and join The Onyx Feather's Celebrate Life Campaign at

This campaign is personal to me in so many ways.  I have listened as my loved ones who are panic-stricken share the news their doctor just dumped into their lap. Through gut wrenching sobs and fear setting across their face they talk, sob, yell, sob, talk, sob, sob, exhale and say how can I do this???

They can't even say the WORD that has brought them to their knees.

It's like if you don't say it it's not real. It might just go away.

The ONE word no one wants their doctor saying in a sentence describing their health.

The ONE word that changes lives FOREVER.

The word is........CANCER.

Cancer. Cancer. doesn't get any easier to say the more you say it.

The stats in the below image will give you an idea how many people are affected by one single word. Warning the numbers are astonishing.

Can We Talk About Breast For A Minute

Breast Cancer statistics are 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over their lifetime while 1 in 3 women are diagnosed with non-invasive breast cancer.

Early detection through screening and increased awareness helps saves lives.

My family, friends, and myself discovered lumps in one or both of our breast during self exams. Early detection starts with self exams. Be familiar with your body so when something isn't quite right you will know.

My Story

I guess it's been about 7 or 8 years since I found a painful knot on the outer side of my left breast. The area was a little red, warm, and painful to touch.

I freaked out a little.

Then a lot.

You see I didn't have health insurance. I was working paycheck to paycheck. I didn't have much money in savings........okay I didn't have more than the minimum allowed, that was my emergency fund. I was in an emergency crisis with no dollars to take care of it.

Compassionate Care

What I did have was Planned Parenthood on my side.

I called to make an appointment. I remember I was so nervous to call. But that nervousness was eased with the compassionate person on the other end of the phone. She listened. She let me cry. Then in a very soft voice she said to me, "I understand how you can feel at this time, but please don't worry yourself our doctors are very good with this type of issue. You're in good hands."

I got control of my sobs and then brought up the fact that I didn't have insurance and I didn't know how I would ever be able to pay for all of the test and treatments if I needed any. Again, she reassured me not to worry  there was an excellent program for women diagnosed with breast issues that I would qualify for.

They got me in right away (which kinda made me nervous......were my symptoms something they could tell could be serious?).

On my appointment day I did my best to keep a positive attitude and not let the worry get the best of me. Wobbly legs and sweating pits I walked into that clinic to face the unknown.

From the moment I walked in the clinic door and signed in to the moment I walked out I received the most compassionate care I have ever received from any doctors office.

On that day I was assigned a health advocate to assist me with any and all things I needed during this time. She explained step by step what to expect. She did not rush me when I had questions she patiently answered every single one. I had her undivided attention. At that moment it was all about me and what I needed.

The Steps

  • Building a relationship with my health advocate
  • Meeting the doctor and building a relationship with her
  • Doctor performed Breast Screening
  • Recommended a Ultrasound of the Breast tissue
  • Schedule a Mammogram

I was able to have everything except the Mammogram done in that one visit. What a relief. But a mammogram, seriously. I'm barely in my forties, I thought I had years before I would need to do this.

I'm not gonna lie. I was scared shitless to have this mammogram done.

More Paperwork

But first I had to fill out the paperwork for the Women's Wellness Program to see if I would qualify. I returned the paperwork the next day and was notified within a couple of days of my acceptance into the program. Now I can breathe a little easier. But dang it.....a mammogram.

Again, I got nervous with all of the swiftness of getting me appointments, getting qualified and then more appointments.

I marched right into St John Hospital to get this mammogram thing done and out of the way. I'm gonna tell ya mammograms are not my most favorite thing to do in the world (to date I've had at least 10 or 11 of these babies, ugh). But well worth the few moments of discomfort. I'm using the word discomfort loosely here...... it's very awkward having a  stranger pull and tug on your breast then smash it flat like a pancake. And again, the technician was as gentle as she could be, explaining everything as she went, and helped keep the event as modest as she could. I am very grateful to her for that.

After all the test results were read I am happy to say I did not have Breast Cancer. I had cysts.....several of them bad dudes!!!  I was told I needed to come every six months for a mammogram and ultrasound to check the size of the cysts and if they were also growing in numbers.

For three years I went every six months for mammograms and ultrasounds. After two years the cysts were not growing in size or number. Yah!!!! Which meant I could start getting mammograms and ultrasounds once a year. Last year was the first year I was not required to have an ultra sound or go back in for more images. Happy Dance!!!!

I continue to perform monthly self exams and have yearly mammograms. I am fortunate to now have health insurance and have had for the last four years. But there are many women who do not have adequate insurance and the need for programs like the Women's Wellness Program continue to be desperately needed.

After receiving the best care during this scary time in my life I want nothing more than to be able to give back to Planned a thank you for all that they do for women. For the compassionate care they provide. For the opportunity to receive care when needed the most.

Giving Back

The Onyx Feather kicked off October with a Celebrate Life campaign to raise $$ that will be donated to Planned Parenthood. TOF is giving 30% of all Celebrate Life Bracelet sales towards this donation. Help make the Celebrate Life campaign make a difference for someone who is in need of their Breast Screening services.

TOF thanks you from the bottom of our heart for your support and for your compassion. Together we can make a difference. Let's CELEBRATE LIFE!!!

Chakras Are Not Just For Yogis

Chakras are your energy source learn how to tap into them. Check out my minimal but useful knowledge about chakras over at

Before you start whining that this is another post for those yoga people or those health nut crazies please take time to read and learn about chakras. Learn how your chakra(s).....and yes, you have them..... pull energy from your environment....the good and the bad. How you can clear your own chakras for improved health.

Chakras are not just a yogi thing. You can use your chakras to improve your health. Find out more at

But Really......Yoga Is Beneficial

Just for the record I LOVE a good yoga practice thanks to Yoga with Adrienne. I can say that now..... but I was not a believer in yoga practice for a long time. I started to make changes in my health and kept coming across reasons why I should start to practice yoga and how beneficial it would be to my health and body.

Anyhooo....another topic another day.

......and yes, yoga and chakras are interlaced and have been since it originated in India between 1500 and 500 BC. Not a new "hot topic" it's been around for awhile. I keep saying over and over..."It's about getting back to the basics". It really is my beautiful friends.

Ready To Live More Holistically

Recently I started reading a book on how to balance your body's energies and boy what an eye opener. Most of the information I share here is from Donna Eden's book Energy Medicine, Balancing Your Body's Energies for Optimal Health, Joy, and Vitality. If you're ready to make changes in your health this book will help guide you through some incredibly amazing techniques to balance your system for optimal health.

I don't want to lose you now so please stay with me, I promise you will find the information intriguing and it just may sway you to start practicing yoga and to pay attention to your chakras, your meridians, and your energies. Since reading Donna Eden's book I have been amazed at how much control I can have with what is going on in my body.

Nine Energy Centers

Along the center axis of your body you have nine energy centers, which are connected to major organs or glands - One of those energy centers are referred to as a chakra. Every organ, gland and body system is connected to a chakra and each chakra is connected to a color vibrational energy.

So here's the deal.

Those yogi's are really on to something. Not only can you improve your posture, flexibility, digestion, sleep, mood by practicing yoga you will also be opening and aligning your chakras.

I don't know about you but this sounds like a way better deal than any medication you get from your PCP.

Law Of Vibration

Let's go back again to the Law of Vibration for a minute. It states that anything that exists in our universe, whether seen or unseen, broken down into and analyzed in it's purest and most basic form, consists of pure energy or light which resonates and exists as vibratory frequency or pattern. All matter, thoughts and feelings has its own vibrational frequency.

Color is defined as light moving at various speeds which is energy. For instance the color red has a wavelength of 625-740 nm and frequency of 400-484 THz. Since the vibrational frequencies of light and sound are related to the organs and cells, it can be understood that color vibrations perceived by the eye or sound vibrations received by the body will also have a profound effect on the organs and cells.

Starting to make sense?

You are influenced by color......from the paint on your walls to the clothes you wear. You are attracted to certain colors. These colors will always catch your eye and give you warm fuzzy feelings.  Companies use colors to draw us to their product especially product which is addictive and not healthy. Once you understand this marketing scheme you can shop without falling victim.

Your emotions change your chakra energy. Learn more at

Your Emotions Will Change The Color Of A Chakra

Memory is energetically coded in your chakras just as it is chemically coded in your neurons. An imprint of every important or emotionally significant event you have experienced is believed to be recorded in your chakra energy. So the anger/sadness/resentment/abandonment that you experience from a relative/friend you've had for years is being held in your chakra and too much of this activity will lead to illness. Think a minute about every         negative thought/emotion you hold it worth your health? Nope. It is not.

7 Chakras

There are 7 chakras with a corresponding colors..... red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet (or white).

The color of a chakra indicates our current physical emotional, and spiritual state. When the chakras are balanced, energy flows into and out of each of these 7 centers harmoniously. When chakras are out of balance, certain physical, mental and emotional symptoms appear.

Now you have some questions I'm being "how do I use the colors or chakras to balance my energy?"

Let me define each chakra and corresponding color for a clearer understanding:

  • Root Chakra - Red -  Survival and Sexuality - Located at the base of the spine and allows us to be grounded and connect to the universal energies. First chakra, base of the spine. Groundedness, trust, belonging, lessens feeling os mistrust.
  • Sacral Chakra - Orange - Creativity - Located beneath the naval, close to the genitals. The sacral chakra is linked to the sexual organs and reproductive system. Opening this chakra will free fertility and inherent creativity. The sacral chakra stimulates sexuality and emotions.
  • Solar Plexus Chakra - Yellow -  Identity and Power - Located in the stomach area and is linked to organs and muscular system in that area. The solar plexus chakra is representative of vitality and will. When this chakra is open, it acts to empower a person and help them find their personal strength. It will help turn dreams and goals into reality.
  • Heart Chakra - Green - Love and Compassion - Located at the center of the chest area and is linked to this entire area, the heart, lungs, circulatory system, and cardiac plexus. The heart chakra bridges the gap between the physical and spiritual worlds. Opening the heart chakra allows a person to love more, empathize, and feel compassion.
  • Throat Chakra - Blue - Expression -  Located in the throat. The throat chakra is linked to the throat, neck, hands, and arms. The throat chakra is connected with speech and hearing, and encourages spiritual communication. Opening the throat chakra improves clairaudience.
  • Third Eye Chakra - Indigo - Deep Perception and Understanding - Located between the eye brows. The Third Eye chakra is our link to the universal unconsciousness. Opening this chakra can aid in clear sight, intuition, integrity, and lessens feelings of despair.
  • Crown Chakra - Violet or White - Transcendence of The Self - Located at the top of the head. The Crown chakra is linked to the crown of the head, nervous system, and the brain, and is representative of pure thought. Opening this chakra will help tap into a deep spiritual understanding.

Still confused?....or maybe not.

A little recap before we go any further.

You Are A Latticework Of Energies

You and I are made up of approximately 37.2 trillion cells which are a latticework of energies. Your energies have different rates of vibration. The Law of Vibration states......nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates. Literally everything applies to this law....sound, color, the cells in our body, the food we eat........

The energies have a transportation system called the meridian which I talked about in my last post. You can head over to Body and Health Management to get more info about your meridians. Meridians are energy pathways that connect the dots, hundreds of tiny reservoirs of heat, electromagnetic and more subtle energies along the surface of the skin. The flow of the meridians are ever changing and are the body's healing energy pathways.

Realigning, balancing and unblocking the chakras allows your body to become better able to adapt to whatever circumstance you must face. When working with the chakras you are working deeper layers while the meridians fluctuate with whatever is going on moment by moment in your life.

You can clear, balance, and strengthen our own chakras. I will briefly explain how to clear your own chakra....... again I highly recommend Donna Eden's book. In chapter 4 of her book you will find more detail which will help you understand how it all works together. My focus of this post is to bring awareness about and to peak an interest in this area of healing.

Finding balance in your chakras will improve your health and wellness. Get the scoop over at

How To Balance Your Chakras

When you work or have someone else work on your chakras it leaves you feeling more centered and grounded. Balanced chakras rev up your energies.

Start at the Root Chakra. Basically, you will lie of your back and with your left hand begin a counterclockwise motion for at least 3 minutes. After 3 minutes use your right hand and begin clockwise motion for at least half as long as counterclockwise. You will do this at each chakra working your way to the Crown Chakra.

The counterclockwise motion stirs up toxic energies and moves them out of the chakra. The clockwise motion provides a completion by reharmonizing and stabilizing the chakra's energies. When you clear your chakras that are still locked into the energies and conflicts of your past, you can open the way for deep healing of chronic or underlying health issues.

Yep, it's that simple and it's pretty basic.... don't you think?

And That's Not All

Balancing your chakras will certainly improve your wellbeing but you also need to make changes in your diet plans. I will touch on this topic soon.  To get you headed in the right direction decrease your intake of sugars and gluten and increase your water (1/2 your body weight in ounces) and protein (80-100mg's per day), you will be amazed at how much better you feel.

Eliminate artificial sweeteners STAT! DO NOT consume foods containing:

  • Aspartame
  • Acesulfame Potassium (K)
  • Saccharin or Sucralose
  • NutraSweet
  • Splenda

These sugar substitutes are linked to:

  • brain tumors
  • mental retardation
  • birth defects
  • epilepsy
  • Parkinson's Disease
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Diabetes

And get this....tap water has now been contaminated with sucralose. It will benefit you to install or purchase a water filter system. Protect yourself and your families health.

And just because a product states: low calorie, diet, sugar free or no sugar added doesn't mean it's a good product. Usually these products contain sugar additives.

Start a new habit of reading labels. Know what's in your foods. Know what's going into your body.

I'm proud of you for wanting to make changes in your lifestyle to improve your health. I am your biggest cheerleader. I know it's not the easiest thing to do. I hope I bring you encouragement and guidance during your wellness journey.

xoxo Tisa
